Summary/Abstract: This paper provides an overview of past and current issues in health care financing in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). It illustrates a synthetic picture of the health systems inherited from the communist regimes and it presents the variations in health public systems‘ organisation, health expenditure, private funding, that occurred over the transition years. This paper analyses the key aspects in the health care financing reforms in the CEE region. After 1989, all countries in the region implemented large-scale health care reforms, but were these reforms effective? In order to answer the research inquiries I used the expert interviewing methodology and data provided by international organisations.
