Summary/Abstract: In his treatise on the (repeated) descent of soul into body, Plotinus finds major inspiration in Heraclitus. In the section on Heraclitus within the introduction (IV, 8, 1), fragments B 101 (twice) and B 90, and possibly also B 47, are paraphrased or alluded to, while fragments B 60 and B 84ab are quoted directly. In the following text (IV, 8, 5), Plotinus may be alluding to fragment B 24 without mentioning Heraclitus. In fragment B 84b, the author argues for reading ἄρχεσθαι as ‘be dominated’ and points out semantic and stylistic implausibility of the ἀρκέεσθαι ‘be satisfied’ conjecture (Mouraviev).
