CONFLICTS IN THE PRESHEVO VALLEY - REFLECTIONS ON REGIONAL SECURITY

Summary/Abstract: The research paper "Conflicts in the Preshevo Valley – Reflections on Regional Security" presents an analysis of the political processes in the strategic region of Presevo Valley over a large period of time. Safety is a very valuable product for the modern man, which highly appreciates only when it is threatened. Individual and collective security has been a real challenge for the Albanian people of Preshevo Valley throughout their history. This paper gives a detailed overview of the conflict in the Preshevo Valley and the security situation in the region of Western Balkans. The paper identifies the causes that have led to armed conflict in the Preshevo Valley in 2000, and identifies various risks and political development processes in the Preshevo Valley pose to regional security. Due to expansion of the Albanian population in different countries of the Balkans as a result of historical circumstances known to all, now is public accepted fact that developments in the Preshevo Valley can have an impact in all these countries where Albanians live.
