Summary/Abstract: In the history of Christianity, Apostle Paul ranks among the most prominent and most “successful” missionaries. The times of his work were equally complicated and full of contradicting choices, as it is today. It may therefore be interesting to ask what the success of Paul’s mission was based on. The article deals both with historical and situation-related religious and political circumstances, i.e. objective conditions supporting the development of the Pauline mission, and with its development, first of all with subjective factors, i.e. the methods and principles of the missionary work of apostle Paul. The text shows that in Paul’s missionary work there is a balance: of personal commitment, and faith in the effectiveness of the word of God; of his managerial abilities, and his deep personal faith in Jesus Christ; of emphasis on community, and individual approach; of anchoring in the Jewish tradition, and understanding of the universality of God’s offer; of a respect for tradition, and the ability to understand new things and to accommodate to those addressed. It was these things that enabled Paul, more than anyone else, to open for the Church a way to the future.
