Summary/Abstract: In March 1946, Josip Broz Tito, a living symbol of the victory of “the Yugoslav people” over fascism, was offi cially welcomed in Prague, the capital of the Czechoslovak Republic. His visit was supposed to strengthen mutual political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries. It was also meant to intensify cooperation between their security services. Less than a year aft er the defeat of Nazi Germany, both countries expressed an extraordinarily strong willingness to cooperate with each other. In 1948, however, these sympathies cooled completely.
