Summary/Abstract: “The Son of Maryam, the beacon of all virtue…” – this is how Muhammad Iqbal speaks about Isa a. s. in Javed Nama, his major masnavi published in 1932. However, the non-Muslim audience is not familiar with the important role that Isa and his virtuous mother play in Islamic tradition. There have been several studies on this topic (W. N. Wysham, Birge, S. Sorudi), as well as the unpublished paper by Dr. Šumis, presented at the congress of Iranian scholars in Bamberg (1991), but they are not publicly available. As for how Islam touches upon Isa, the last great prophet prior to the arrival of Muhammad p. b. u. h., this has been the long-established source of dialogue and exchange between Muslims and Christians. Of course, this exchange has indicated clearly the differences in conclusions about Isa’s personality.
