Summary/Abstract: Each gift has a donor and a receiver, and it is similar in the case of a message both in the process of interpersonal communication and the communication via mass media. The article, based on Karol Wojtyła’s interpersonal approach, draws the readers’ attention to the analogy between the gift category and the communication process. In both instances there is a special place for man, acting as a person. Man experiences oneself to the greatest extent only when performing the deed named “disinterested gift of himself” to some other man, who is also a person. This experience ought to accompany man also in the process of communication, both interpersonal and media communication. Communication is a deed, either morally correct or wrong. This axiological aspect decides whether man realizes himself as a person through this deed or not. A deed, according to Wojtyła, is the perspective of man as a person. People’s communication should be the communication between persons (interpersonal), thus it should be a deed-gift for another person.
