Summary/Abstract: With various authors noticing increasingly often the problem of equal access and position within the discourse about the Holocaust, and with the growing number of popular presentations of the Holocaust, it becomes apparent that a fresh look should be taken at the problem of these presentations. Referring to the notion of ‘postmemory’ described by Marianne Hirsch, the author suggests a new criterion of analysis, showing in a different light the presentations of the Holocaust in popular culture. It is the question of the succession of generations in the discourse, relating to the change in the social context of the presentation fifty years after the war. Using the notion of communication in Niklas Luhmann’s theory, the author analyses selected scenes from contemporary films talking about the Holocaust while using the comedy convention.
