Summary/Abstract: The author notices that a term „stereotype‟ is an inextricable part of a discourse in many areas of life and it is used in varied contexts. Furthermore, the author states that the definitions of a stereotype should place emphasis on the emotional evaluation as their important constituents. She shows the difference between stereotype and prototype (an object acknowledged as typical) on the basis of a few names of animals. Stereotypical and prototypical features have their own appropriate way of fixing in a language, not necessarily as nomination, idioms or derivatives; it is also possible to extract them from the data gathered in surveys or from texts.
