Summary/Abstract: In novels of Martin Amis, one of the leading Brritish contemporary writers, characters and background are a firm whole posing issues of present-time identity. In his novels - particularly in Money, London Fields and Information - Amis analyses fragmentary nature of huge Western cities inhabitants’ personality - mostly population of London and some American megapolises. His novels particularly emphasise mechanisms and patterns by which an urban environment shapes the overall destructivity, present on global and individual level alike. Therefore, his characters are spiritually, emotionally and physically worn out ones, with identities dominated by nihilism and fragmentation. Being determined by interaction with their urban environment, his characters are a very important link to understanding Amis’ satirical interpretation of contemporary reality in the framework of his postmodern poetics.
