Summary/Abstract: The author of the article discusses pragmatic functions of honorifics ‘excuse me’, ‘please’, ‘you are welcome’, ‘thank you’ in Polish and compare them with Russian language etiquette. Her aim is to reveal the potential sources of failures in gaining sociocultural competences by the Russians studying Polish and to define potential linguistic and cultural misunderstandings.
