Summary/Abstract: This paper explores Balkan people’s attitudes towards Balkan languages. Enquiries were made in Sofia, Athens, Beograd, Bucharest, and Istanbul. The participants (university students) were asked to arrange Balkan languages (except their native language) according to their wish to study Balkan languages. Analyzing the results, we can make some conclusions. There are solid language attitudes towards different languages in every Balkan country. The language attitudes depend on economic and social prosperity of the state, where a language is spoken. A sense of community (in history, culture or religion) may also be very important.
