Summary/Abstract: English seems to be the ”lingua franca” of the 21st century and many linguists, along with politician share the belief that the process of linguistic globalization should be speeded. If it is true that native tongues are doomed, than resistance is futile and linguistic policies should be reconsidered. The paper discusses the linguistic fashion of the day and argues that a clear dominance of English is not necessarily ensured.
