Summary/Abstract: This article deals with some words of unknown origin in the Hungarian language and discusses the relevant problems of etymological research. The author focuses on the similarity of semantic reletions in the Slovak and Altaic languages as well as the semantic connections between Hungarian and Slovak words. The words denoting ″arrow″ and their role in semantic and etymological research is invetigated. Also discussed is the presence of Altaic loan words in Hungarian and the Altaic-Hungarian contacts as presented in a study by M. Marek (2003).
