Summary/Abstract: Given that cross-border crime represents a major problem in the European Union, my purpose is to present new aspects on the Integrated Cross-Border Security Model and which refers to the Schengen acquis. All the aspects of the Border Politics are grouped in an “Integrated Model for Border Security” and can be structured on four levels of complementary analysis: (i) activities in third countries, (ii) measures at the external borders, (iii) activities within the EU, (iv) economic relations. The measures that have to be adopted by all the countries concerned are described in detail in the “ Schengen Catalogue of best practices and recommendations” needed to apply correctly the Schengen acquis, which supports the candidate countries , but also the institutions that control the cross-border activities. The implications of the Integrated Model for Border Security over the economic relations are not direct, but are very important in terms of creating a common area of freedom, security and justice, in regard to the need for securitization of the Schengen area, this goal playing an important part in the process of consolidation of the European Union.
