Summary/Abstract: At present, the current economic reality marks an important moment in the evolution of the Romanian banking system and, in particular, for the process of assimilation of national legislation with the EU. The implementation of measures meant to liberalize the banking services, as required under EU law, may create serious problems for the Romanian banking sector. The recent problems of the banking system in the euro area raise questions opposite to the correctness of the legislative process of liberalization, in the context of bank nationalization processes recorded in several Member States. The future adoption of the euro is thus more risky, since, at the institutional level, the Romanian banking sector is not fully prepared to absorb all the criteria of the EU legislation.
