MIECZYSŁAW JASTRUN'S LATE ELEGIES

Summary/Abstract: Jastrun's late elegiac texts analyzed here are systematized according to their thematic dominants like: reference to culture tradition (the Bible, antiquity), associations with Greek philosophy, ethical reflections, personal experience (including autobiographical remarks). Among the elegies there are four works from the last two books, which allow characterization of this type of the author’s lyrics. Turning towards the mythical childhood (connected with the old age experience), meditation upon time, the forthcoming end of existence awareness, clearance with life, reflection on memory belong to the characteristics, as well as simplicity and scarcity of artistic means of expression. Elegiac tone is always present in the poet's works, but "late elegies" are still different.
