Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the so-called metamodernism of Timotheus Vermeulen and Robin van den Akker in the context of the selected contemporary theories which question the validity of the postmodern paradigm. Based on the assumptions of the metamodernism, author presents a proposal of new understanding the terms “identity” and “subject”. This approach emphasizes some fixed, non-liquid components of identity, distinctive features that allow to experience the continuity of the individual “I”. The strenght of the subject results here from the self-consciousness of these attributes, from the attempts to take non-ironic action and to create community and understanding with other people.
