The night side of the world. The Romantic and The Escape by Adam Mickiewicz: an attempt at a non-anthropocentric reading

Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt at interpreting Adam Mickiewicz's Escape, which is inspired by the non-antropocentric critique requiring that the human being is not central in the reality but seen as one of its elements. The reading of the world thus becomes “a sensitive reading,” while the romantic landscape at night provides a chance to recognise oneself in another dimension, in the world experienced sensually. The question of otherness, which is not an attempt to domesticate the strangeness, turns such a reality (and such a reading) into a project of acknowledging the importance of that which is beyond the horizon of human understanding. In her analysis the author looks for traces of the romantic sensual imagination in contemporary literature.
