Summary/Abstract: The material gathered in this study provides a rich and diverse context for understanding the methods and principles of Roman law, the profundity of Roman juridical thought, the legitimacy of Roman-law-based conceptions of monarchical regulatory authority, and the state of the legal principle in Roman law. My aim in this paper is to examine civil law systems historically influenced by Roman law through “reception,” factors impacting on the legal capacity of adult Roman women, the transformation of the Roman law rule into a general legal principle during the foundational period of the ius commune, and the connection between ancient Roman legal institutions and the circumstances of early Roman society.
