Summary/Abstract: Titu Maiorescu represents one of the greatest Romanian scholars that earned his immortality in different fields of activity: social, political, literary, journalistic, scientific, educational, etc. But there are very few details about his short activity as an attorney at Ilfov Court. According to the studies he graduated abroad in Vienna, Berlin and Paris Titu Maiorescu could have been one of the most famous Romanian lawyers. But he was not. Why didn’t he choose to practice law although he got his bachelor degree? What were those inner reasons and motivations which stopped him from becoming “the attorney” as it happened in the case of education where he is still considered “the teacher” or in the criticism where he is “the critic”? Were these actions caused by personal, subjective or by impersonal, objective factors? Did he developed his career in accordance with his wishes and personal ideals or he let himself carried away by the steps of chance and circumstances? Did Maiorescu enjoy studying law? Would he have been a good lawyer? Where there any juridical issues which we would have liked to discover and perfect in? Can Titu Maiorescu be considered a self-made-man of the Romanian culture and his life and career a bildungsroman?
