“The drunken countryside”: conjectures and facts

Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes the phenomenon of drinking in prerevolutionary Russia in late XIX – early XX century. Using a large of landscape of sources and literature, adducing a numerous statistics, he reconstructs a detail picture of the life of the Russian Peasantry turn of the century. Disagreeing with other researches, the author judges to the independent conclusions, anew discovered the problem of “drunken country”.
