Summary/Abstract: The review examines the book "Lubāna ezera mitrāja neolīta dzintars un tā apstrādes darbnīcas" by archaeologist Ilze Loze (Riga, 2008), dealing with the most ancient amber workshops on the territory of Latvia. They had produced zoomorphic figurines, jewelry and pendants, testifying, contra Tacitus, to the popularity of amber long before the advent of Roman taste for luxury.
