Summary/Abstract: In the autobiographical essay, an eminent American historian, Karen Offen, writes about the beginning of her academic career in the 8th decade. She reveals backstage university life of that period, prevailing atmosphere and stereotypical attitudes of male academic community towards women’s place in the society in general and womenscientists in particular. The essay witnesses that due to the efforts of women-historians, Karen Offen among them, women’s history became an independent research sphere; university programmes included courses on women’s history as well as male and female studies. Despite the fact that Karen Offen constantly participates in the activities of many international organizations, she remains a prolific author. This year she published a selection of works “Globalizing Feminisms. 1789–1945” which was warmly welcomed by Lithuanian women-historians and other scientists interested in the development of feminism.
