Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the possibilities of applying a complex approach to the study of the demographic development of territorial units by the means and methods of the multi-measurement statistic analysis. The method of 'the maximum groups' diameter' has been applied to delineate the similarities and the differences between territorial units with respect to the de¬mographic situation within them. On that basis, a demographic division of the country's territory into regions has been carried out. Eight major measurements of the demographic situation on the level of the 're¬gion' have been used separately for the village and the town population of every region. The article offers an analysis of the characteristic features of the regions in question, formed after the valid (at the time of the research) administrative division of the country's territory. A basis for comparative analysis is formed with respect to the demographic dividing into regions that has been introduced by the new territorial division - at a lower level of aggregation of the units studied. Thus, new conclusions may be formed as to the influence of the size and the range of territorial units on the territorial differences within the country.
