On Semantic Features of Three Lexemes of nic Form

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present different ways in which three lexemes traditionally described as negative pronouns function. Studying the semantic agreements within examined lexemes, the author describes adjustments in negative sentences. Due to comparison of corresponding sentences with coś and nic, the author explicates a noun nic 1, which constitutes non-existence of the object with features enumerated in a sentence. Nic 2, a particle that enhances the speaker’s conviction on the truthfulness of a judgement comprised in a sentence, is explicated by its comparison to synonyms wcale, zupełnie, w ogóle. Nic 3, a noun describing people and objects negatively evaluated by a speaker, is explicated in reference to the notion of importance and to the speaker's feelings.
