Summary/Abstract: The text constitutes a synthetic presentation of models, tasks and functions of the university of the third age. The subsequent parts show its origins and changes, forms and methods of work, as well as conclusions from the research. In conclusion, the arguments in favour of the support of the development of the universities of the third age in Poland and all over the world are given.
