Summary/Abstract: Through an analysis of two different representations of the 'new woman' in G. B. Shaw's play "Getting Married", the paper re-examines the views of the so-called first wave of feminist literary critics as generators of the discourse regarding Shaw as an indisputable pro-feminist far ahead of his time and his female characters as unfailingly dominant, non-standard and progressive.
