Summary/Abstract: [Lecture] I: 17 Nov 1967 Semiotics deals with issues of signification and communication. But what is it, when we talk about man, that justifies us thinking about communication at all? To what extent is the concept of me connected to signification and communication? The science of the 19th century created a conception of personality as a biological being. For us the boundaries of personality have been associated with the boundaries of the biological unit. On the other hand, the 19th century overturned the conceptions of man [being valid until then], and the boundary between man and beast became certain for us. This is the base for Darwinism.
