Summary/Abstract: The ethnic minorities in Slovakia and the Netherlands are in many ways different in character, composition and their respective historical backgrounds. Yet there are enough parallels in terms of the social, cultural and political problems and their presence in society to render such a comparative analysis possible and even challenging. The purpose of this article is not to give a detailed account of the different minorities in Slovakia and the Netherlands or a sociological analysis of the relations between them and the majority population in both countries, but to pose some questions concerning possible political and public policy consequences of the most critical minority issues.
