Summary/Abstract: After becoming a member of the EU, Slovakia will be fully confronted with the results of a development of almost half a century that caused a profound transformation in the current EU member states and will, no doubt, continue to cause such transformation in Slovakia. This transformation has impacts on many aspects of statehood, sovereignty being one of them. The author analyzes different contexts where Slovakia.s EU membership will probably create a shift in the understanding and functioning of sovereignty looking at the transformation of sovereignty in the European Union in general and then considers how the current state of affairs can be viewed in terms of contemporary legal theory.
