Summary/Abstract: Music nowadays, being functionally part of the media, has to be studied as media music and the optics of cultural anthropology is the best option for studding it. Why anthropology of music and why of the media music? The answers are illustrated by examples of processes of the early history of the media music as music industry and the wireless, putting an emphasis on popular music. The paper sees in the points of intersection of live and media, oral and recorded, own and foreign, presentation and representation the crossroads between music and media, from where an anthropological and culturological interpretation of the media music could start. Some of the contemporary processes are considered such as the protest-music relations and the role of hip-hop and punk music. Current processes and the media as fieldwork are the touchstone that could be used by new theories and approaches for testing themselves, and by researchers for testing their heuristic potential.
