Summary/Abstract: European environment supposes a diversity of communities and easy communication between renowned artists of different nationalities. The article focuses on the figure of Wladyslaw Schmidt, a contemporary artist, whose aesthetical views were shaped in the Cold War era. The paper presents unknown facts of his biography of an open-minded modern man, who lives in his own small world maintaining though contacts with such figures as Yves Saint Laurent, Zaitsev, Sylvie Vartan, Françoise Sagan and their ingenious generations of the 1960s and the 1970s. Schmidt’s creative walk of life really defines him as a contemporary European artist, who deserves more detailed research into his career.
