De Principiis: From the Aporetics of the One to the Aporetics of the Ineffable

Summary/Abstract: In this article, I focus on Damascius’ treatise “On the first principles” and I discuss the fact that, though not explicitly, the beginning of this treatise is situated on the general frame of the first Platonic aporia of the one (from the dialogue “Parmenides”), which for the Neoplatonists is the aporia of the first principle. The discourse on the first principles develops this aporia, offering a specific solution, opening towards the Ineffable, Damascius’ first principle.
