Summary/Abstract: There has been a wide range of discussions on the approach to American foreign policy from past to present. The main issue is whether the foreign policy was implemented in order to expand the democracy and freedom in a global scale or to use in these concepts in the context of strengthening its hegemony. Specifically, the strategies applied after the 9/11 attack by George W. Bush were pointing out a turning point in a paradigm shift in the foreign policy. This study consists of two parts. In the first part, the general tendency of the conventional American foreign policy is presented. Then, the changes in the foreign policy will be examined in the light of the before and after Bush administration regarding to the 9/11 attack.
