Summary/Abstract: The textual criticism of the Old Bulgarian translation of the Old Testament appears to be a fi eld of scholarly research, where not only the Old Bulgarian studies and the Bible studies can participate, but the ethnology should also be involved. Both the primary, most likely Cyrillo-Methodian translation and its subsequent changes contain a large number of problematic points, that could hardly be explained without the ethnological or anthropological view. On the other hand, the same places contain important data for the ethnologists, who seldom have the opportunity to trace their own theoretical constructions in written texts, dating even earlier than the dawn of Slavia Orthodoxa’s civilization. The diachronic analysis can clarify the origins of certain social, cultural, mythological concepts and explain their development to that state that contemporary folklore studies register.
