Summary/Abstract: The Assembly of the Republic of Serbia adopted on 14th July 2011 three new library laws: Law on legal deposit of publications, Law on old and rare library material, Law on library and information activities. Serbian library community, in cooperation with Ministry of culture, worked nearly two years on the preparation of these laws. This task was not easy, especially because the drafts should be harmonized with many different European resolution, directives and regulations. The laws came into force, but their application will start when all bylaws are prepared, three months after for the Law on legal deposit of publications and six months after for the other two laws. Law on library and information activities includes several standards which will be signed by Ministry of culture. In this paper the author will talk about all novelties which the new laws introduce in the library and information sector in Serbia, about their harmonization with European legislation and standards presrcibed by new laws.
