Summary/Abstract: "School library is a component of educational process" (written in IFLA and UNESCO guidelines for school libraries), but in our environment, unfortunately, a role of a school library and its librarian is marginalized or denied completely. Some of our school libraries are still only depots of school reading. Our school librarians are disregarded, but it seems that's rare to find somebody who tries to do something more to remedy a situation. All of us agree that unique legislative is missing and general standards for the school libraries, but we did ask ourselves rare or never if we do anything the laws pass. If we know current standards in our canton (Sarajevo Canton). At Act on librarianship (Službene novine Kantona Sarajevo,N° 1/96, 2/96, 3/96 and 16/97) a school library is a component library and pedagogic standards and normatives for primary / secondary education refered to it and they are existing in Sarajevo Canton. I don't like to criticize current standards or regulations, but I would only like to draw your attention to the fact that school librarians aren't enough informed about these things. The laws, regulations and standards are bored to read, but we must know our rights, not only our duties.
