Summary/Abstract: The paper is based on the results of studies carried out in the community of a catholic crisis response center for women who are threatened with prostitution or wish to give up prostitution. It mainly attempts at finding answers to the following questions: What may be a deviation and a norm for the center management staff? Where are such convictions derived from? How do women admitted to the center respond to imposed rules and “recovery” practices? And finally, to what extent do such women, in their own view, comply with the rules before leaving the center? The paper discusses also the issue of lying, as it is strongly related to the abovementioned questions.
