Queer and Transsexuality. Transsexualism in the Context of Queer Theory

Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this article is to show the complexity of transsexuality. The author draws particular attention to the theoretical issues related to the audit, defining transsexuality. She also shows how research on transsexualism tended to develop over time and how the medical discourse determined the perception of the phenomenon. It is empasized here is that transsexualism cannot be easily represented by one particular theory. The specificity of the transsexual complicates the reading of this phenomenon through the lens of feminism, the sociology of the body, or queer theory.
