Summary/Abstract: The article constitutes an attempt to draw the phenomenon of Fortunate Isles and its function in Croatian contemporary literature. The analysis is based on two novels: Lost Homeland (1955) by Slobodan Novak and Guidebook around the Island (2005) by Senko Karuza. In the former one, the island of the blessed is presented as a place of Novak’s childhood and is solely his own construction of thought. This utopian structure is a way of escaping from the authentic world which is a synonym of the lost innocence. For Karuza, the topos of Fortunate Isles is a starting point to find the genius loci of the Croatian island and to show the real unknown everyday life of the islanders.
