Summary/Abstract: During the span of the 20th century, Eurasia experienced many conflicts, wars, and traumas. The two world wars, followed by the Cold War, caused a differences in perception on both sides of the Berlin Wall. Western Europe with the US and the USSR represented two different sides in political and economic terms. However, in the 1980s the leaders of the Soviet Union died one after another, and then Gorbachev had to take over a country with problematic mechanisms that prevented system from operating due to corruption, the war in Afghanistan, and old fashioned infrastructure that failed to modernize itself in tandem with the necessities of the time.
