Summary/Abstract: Life style preferences among the youth are important indicators of social changes and the direction in which society is moving. This paper examines the life style preferences of students of the University of Priština, temporarily seated in Kosovska Mitrovica, and the University of Niš. The sample consists of 944 students with equal distribution of males and females and participants from both universities. Life style preferences were measured by the Life Style Scale (Kuzmanović, Havelka & Popadić, 1995). Our results showed that students from these universities prefer the utilitarian and family-sentimental styles, while the life style aimed at achieving popularity is the least preferred. Of the demographic variables, gender of participants and material status of their families were the most relevant determinants of life style preference. Analysis of the latent structure of the Life Style Scale revealed that all life styles could be grouped into two broader orientations: personal (individual) and pro-social orientation. The paper discusses the meaning of obtained results and provides guidelines for potential further research.
