Summary/Abstract: The international position of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in the first several years of its existence was rather complicated. Threatened by the revisionist aspirations of its neighbours, through which the conflicting interests of the great powers in the Balkans were refracted, the Kingdom of SCS had to take a series of measures in order to protect itself from them. By all means, the most concrete among these measures was the creation of the Little Entente (1920-1921), a regional defence alliance aimed at preserving the territorial status quo in the Danube region and protecting its members (the Kingdom of SCS, Czechoslovakia, and Romania) from Hungarian and Bulgarian revisionism. Despite this fact, subsequent international circumstances did not allow the Kingdom to feel safe, which is why it decided to ask for a loan for arms in Paris in the amount of 300 million francs in late 1922. The aim of this paper is to show the efforts of the Yugoslav diplomacy in obtaining the arms loan – the circumstances, obstacles, and conditions that preceded its signing and implementation.
