On Border Municipalities Of Southeast Serbia In Narodne Novine Daily

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of the repeated measures study of how the daily paper Narodne Novine, published in Niš (the center of southeast Serbia), writes about the life in the border area of southeast Serbia. The goal of the paper is to answer the question whether the way in which the border areas of southeast Serbia were presented in this daily paper had changed as viewed against the year 2011/2012, when a previous study was conducted. This was carried out through an analysis of the yearly content of Narodne Novine in the period 1 March 2013 – 28 February 2014. Quantitative coverage has been analyzed, followed by an analysis of the quality of reporting, i.e. of the contents of texts and the way in which border municipalities of southeast Serbia were written about. The research methodology was taken over from the study published in 2011/2012, so that the results could be compared. The main motivation for this study was found in the fact that southeast Serbia is one of the most devastated Serbian areas, and also in the awareness of the role of the media in shaping the public opinion, and their influence on defining priorities in a society.
