Summary/Abstract: Mystification and fear are two attributes of the pseudo-heroic mode in Apollonius‟s Argonautika. The former concerns the subversive means of obtaining the heroic status, whereas the latter is an all-consuming desire of those who mystify reality to hide their true identity. Here, we show that Apollonius of Rhodes makes use of the two attributes mentioned in a plea for the hero‟s humanity.
