Długa droga Polski do Europy
A Long Way of Poland to Europe

Summary/Abstract: This is a speech given at the conference „Languages and Cultures of the Widened European Union: New Perspectives of International Cooperation” (Universidad Complutense, Madrid, 2003). It was published in Spanish together with conference materials. According to the author’s thesis, in the past there was a borderline in Poland between Eastern and Western Christianity, between more modernized and less developed world. Even today, Western regions of the country are more developed than Eastern ones. Now, after Poland has been connected with West Europe, the question arises, whether there is a chance for Poland to be there pleno titulo, or if we are going to remain on the margin this cultural area.
