Summary/Abstract: Introducing nuclear power to the Polish energy system faces controversies of a political, economic, cultural and ideological nature. Implementation of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme, launched by the Polish government in 2009, is therefore a major challenge in the area of public participation in the decision-making process. The purpose of this article is to provide an insight into the nuclear programme implementation from the perspective of technology governance, with a special focus on the applied technology assessment procedures. The main questions of the article are: which model of technology assessment has been used in decision-making practice in the field of development of Polish nuclear energy? How is the public participation in decision-making and evaluation of risks and chances of nuclear energy present in this process? In the first part of the article the perspective of technology governance and models of technology assessment have been presented. The second part consists of an empirical analysis of the nuclear energy development in Poland from the point of view of technology assessment.
