Instruments supporting smes sector at the local level – example of the Nyski Poviat

Summary/Abstract: The article is aimed at the analysis of instruments supporting the sector of small and medium entrepreneurship (SME) at the local level from 2007-2012 and pointing the place and role of those enterprises for the local economy. To achieve it the author used the literature review from the scope of both small and medium enterprises and local economy as well as the overview of legally binding acts. She also provided the analysis of local instruments on the example of the nyski poviat by doing research in this scope. The research has showed that SME is a sector which development as for the principle is supported by the local government, however there is still the incompetent funds spending. It contains lessons for the local selfgovernment concerning its greater commitment and more intentional using of instruments being under its disposal.
