Emotional vs. sexual infidelity: gender differences and emotional responses

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the conclusions of our research on sex differences regarding the emotional response to infidelity. We verified if, in the case of Romanian subjects, there are sex differences at the level of emotional response (global/furious/angry) of married people for the types of infidelity (global, sexual and emotional). At the same time, we analyzed if there is an interaction effect between the sex and self-esteem on the global emotional response to the types of infidelity we assessed. Considering the fact that the research regarding this area is at least controversial, the main objective of the present paper is to shed light on some aspects of the infidelity, on the premises of the consequences that infidelity has on personal, familial, social and professional levels.
